Picture of the main operating position.

Collins (S-line) 75S-3 receiver, 32S-3 transmitter, Collins 312B-3 speaker, Collins 312B-4/5 station control with phone patch interface, Collins SM-1 desk top microphone and Collins 30L-1 500 watt RF amplifier.

This station was located in the front of the MARS station, just left of the door as you walked into the shack.

This station was located in the rear of the MARS station across from the workbench.

Note curtain doorway left in picture. This was the entrance into the rear of MARS shack where station two and the workbench were located. Station two was on the left and the workbench was on the right.

Telephone booths in lobby waiting room. The telephones in these booths were wired into the Collins 312B-4/5 station controls inside the radio room. One phone booth was connected to main station and the other phone booth was connected to the second station.

 

Desk inside the radio shack. This desk was directly across from the window and door going into the shack.

The refrigerator was our lifeline. It was stocked with beer and sodas.

Workbench

 

Door in middle of picture was entrance into building from outside. Picture taken from inside lobby.

Note TV in upper left. One channel, AFN (Armored Forces Network) which was being broadcasted out of Saigon. We had an 8 element TV yagi antenna at ~25 feet. The picture quality was snowy, however usable.

 

Door right in picture is the door which went into to MARS radio shack from lobby.

Collins radio crystal pack. This allows us to place the Collins radio equipment onto any required authorized HF frequency.
